John --
While we enjoy the long weekend, I want to take a brief moment to talk about why we're celebrating.
It's because of the labor movement that we have worker rights like a 40-hour workweek, weekends, the minimum wage, and overtime. Strong unions and decent wages are the foundation of the middle class, and I'm working to protect workers' rights here in Washington and in the House.
John, too many American workers are juggling more than one job to make ends meet every week. And countless American children don't know where their next meal will come from.
The Trump administration is more focused on giving major tax cuts to the wealthy few and picking a harmful trade war with China than building up the middle class. Meanwhile, my colleagues and I in the House voted for a $15 minimum wage, and I'm co-sponsoring the American Family Act to provide common-sense tax relief for working families.
A strong economy is contingent on the strength of the middle class, which is why we must continue to advocate for decent wages, safe working conditions, and dignity on the job for all workers. If you're with me, please add your name next to mine this Labor Day.

Have a safe and wonderful Labor Day! Tomorrow, let's keep fighting for an economy that works for everyone.
Thank you,
