This is a wake-up call — ad spending in Ohio alone is expected to reach a record $749 million for the midterm elections!

We need to talk about why interest groups are so focused on one state. On top of a hotly contested Senate race, Ohio will see a handful of consequential elections for the future of democracy — including the fourth-most expensive gubernatorial election in the country.

The elections for governor, auditor, and secretary of state will determine how the redistricting crisis plays out because they all hold crucial positions on the state’s redistricting commission. These are the officials who will determine if fair maps are drawn in the future.

The fair maps movement has endorsed a slate of Democracy Defenders in Ohio and other key states across the country. Winning these races is critical to preserving democracy and combating Republican gerrymanders.
