As the cyclosporiasis investigation continues, and we continue to side-eye our iceberg lettuce and raspberries, we have an important reminder:
In one of his first moves in office, Trump slashed funding to the CDC.
As a result of funding not keeping up with demand and staff being forced out by Trump’s DOGE, the CDC ended up downgrading the Foodborne Diseases Action Surveillance Network (FoodNet), reducing a program aimed at tracking food poisoning pathogens, including cyclospora. Cutting this program makes it harder for the government to identify and respond to outbreaks, and Americans are once again paying the price.
John, this is another clear example of how Trump has put politics before the hardworking people of our nation.
As the cost of living continues to skyrocket, millions are unable to afford healthcare, and food insecurity is on the rise, Trump is narrowly focused on passing voter suppression laws, enacting new chaotic tariffs, and continuing to ask for money for ballrooms and to fund his War of Choice. Enough is enough.
John, we need to put a check and balance on Trump and his backward priorities. Help support Shontel’s re-election campaign and help us flip the House blue in November by rushing $5 immediately.
