For Filling 1000 Back-to-Remote-Learning Backpacks

Remote learning will be challenging for all students and their families, but thanks to so many generous neighbors plus a special gift from Washington Gas, 1000 Identity youth are starting the school year with a gift bag of supplies to help them be successful remote learners. These Montgomery County Public School students are receiving noise-canceling headphones, surge protectors, supplies like pencils, markers, writing and drawing pads, and some snacks for breaks or a basic fitness tracker to encourage physical exercise as a healthy way to relieve stress.

Identity is personally delivering the backpacks to reinforce the first of many personal connections that will help them be successful students.

What Identity is Doing in the Community

Since March, Identity has touched more than 15,000 lives, helping families and young adults access basic necessities such as food, housing, academic support, medical care, mental health services, education about COVID-19, and rental assistance.

We also continue to keep young people engaged in their education, older youth in their work skills development and parents equipped to help them. We moved almost all youth and family support online and significantly increased our capacity to deliver lifesaving case management services, direct client assistant and nontraditional mental health supports remotely.

We continue to co-lead the Black and Brown Coalition for Educational Equity and Excellence to ensure all children receive a quality education and opportunities to succeed, whether remotely or in-person.
