Be Part of the Solution
Actions you can take to help your loved one, your family or your community.
Better care starts by making treatment easier to get and ensuring families have the support they need. Learn how you can help more people get proven treatment and find free support for parents and caregivers.
1. Modernizing Opioid Treatment Access Act 2.0
Fewer than 1 in 5 people who need addiction treatment receive it, and even fewer receive evidence-based care like medications for opioid use disorder (OUD). Despite decades of research demonstrating the effectiveness of methadone to treat OUD, the medication remains stigmatized and inaccessible.
When prescribed to treat OUD, methadone can only be provided at specific clinics – opioid treatment programs (OTPs) – rather than at doctors’ offices or pharmacies like other medications. Patients are often required to go to OTPs daily, which can present barriers to care due to employment, education, child care, transportation, etc.
The Modernizing Opioid Treatment Access Act 2.0 would allow physicians board-certified in addiction medicine or addiction psychiatry to prescribe methadone and allow pharmacies to dispense it, which would remove some of these barriers and improve access treatment.
Send a letter to your members of Congress urging them to support the Modernizing Opioid Treatment Access Act 2.0.
