Georgia is once again one of the most important battlegrounds in America.

Over the past several years, Georgia Republicans have enacted sweeping changes to the state’s voting laws, including the 2021 election law that shortened the window to request absentee ballots, imposed new voter ID requirements for mail voting, limited ballot drop boxes, and made other changes to election administration.

At the same time, election officials have continued large-scale voter purges, removing hundreds of thousands of registrations they say are outdated — a process that can keep eligible voters out of the ballot box if they don’t realize they’ve been removed.

A pivotal U.S. Senate race is on the ballot this year.

The outcome in Georgia won’t just determine who represents the state in Washington — it could determine which party controls the United States Senate.
