Friend,
I wouldn’t be where I am today without the right to organize.
My grandfather was a UAW worker and a secretary in the union. His ability to organize helped my family break out of poverty and get into the middle class.
My grandmother is from a family of mineworkers in Iowa. And if it wasn’t for those folks fighting for better wages, I wouldn’t be where I am now.
I deeply believe that our country is stronger when our workers can easily organize and join unions. In fact, our campaign workers in the first four states have unionized, which strengthens our campaign, our employees, and the benefits we offer -- and I couldn’t be prouder of them.
But right now in our country, unions are under attack from President Trump, Republicans in Congress, a conservative Supreme Court, and large corporations.
Corporate power and wealth are growing while workers’ wages are essentially stagnant. And we’ve seen so many Republican-led states undermine the ability of people to organize their workplaces.
The right to unionize is sacred in our country, and right now it’s under assault.
When I’m president, I’ll make sure that workers are empowered again. Quality jobs are about so much more than a paycheck -- they're about dignity and economic justice.
I promise that, under my leadership, the attacks on organized labor will stop and union power will expand.
