John,
While families in Detroit are struggling to keep up with rising costs, their multimillionaire congressman has been busy gambling with his campaign funds.
Do-Nothing Democratic incumbent Rep. Shri Thanedar has lost over $600,000 in campaign money on a disastrous $3.7 million crypto investment.
Now, he’s relying on AIPAC’s billionaire and Republican megadonors to bail him out:
AIPAC donors are funneling massive amounts of cash to save Shri’s failing campaign. According to The Intercept, “Two-thirds of the money Thanedar raised in the last quarter came from AIPAC.”
He didn’t always have their support. When Shri first ran for Congress, AIPAC opposed him because he called Israel an “apartheid state” in the Michigan legislature. But once he got to Washington, he sold out.
In 2023, Shri went on an AIPAC-sponsored trip to Israel and quickly changed his tune. The following year, AIPAC officially endorsed him, and he received over $2 million in support from their right-wing megadonor-funded network.
Like our communications director Usamah Andrabi told The Intercept, Shri’s time in Congress is “representation for the 1% at the expense of one of the poorest districts in the country.”
Detroit deserves better, John. They deserve Justice Democrat Donavan McKinney.
We have just 10 days left until the Michigan primary election on August 4th. Donavan has the momentum, but Shri is using his personal fortune and checks from AIPAC’s donors to try and drown us out.
In solidarity,
Justice Democrats
