It’s been one year since President Trump signed his “Big, Beautiful Bill.” As you may remember, that law provided enormous tax breaks for the wealthiest Americans and paid for them with devastating cuts to safety nets for the poorest Americans. 

Trump’s law has hurt working families in so many ways. By refusing to extend Affordable Care Act credits, premium costs already jumped 58%. Insurance rates dropped in almost every state, and 1.2 million people lost access to healthcare. Thankfully, Connecticut has stepped up to the plate to shield vulnerable families, and we’re one of only 9 states that saw healthcare enrollment increase.

Trump's bill also caused SNAP participation rates to fall in every state. Today, 4 million fewer Americans are accessing the nutritional assistance that they need. That means more hungry Americans, more skipped meals, more kids going to bed on an empty stomach.

I voted no on Trump’s bill because I knew it would hurt American families who most need a little support. But these numbers are even worse than I imagined one year ago.

I’m fired up and ready for Democrats to re-claim the majority. We'll undo this cruel legislation on day one.
