North Carolinians Against Gun Violence strongly supports this ordinance and the Town Council needs to hear from the public. Can you email the Town Council to let them know that you support banning weapons on certain town properties? Please do this before 5pm on Monday, August 31st. You do not need to live in Holly Springs to comment. Many Wake County municipalities already prohibit the open carrying of firearms at town and park/recreation facilities. NCGV believes that Holly Springs also should adopt this common sense ordinance that will help protect people from gun violence, fear, and intimidation. We must counter opponents of the ordinance from across the state who will comment. In fact, many spoke in opposition of the limiting of concealed carry on town property at the last Holly Springs Town Council meeting and helped defeat that ordinance. We must fight to ensure the ordinance banning open carry on certain town properties is approved. While some may argue that shooters target gun free zones, facts don’t support that assertion. The reality is that shooters generally target a location based on an emotional grievance or an attachment to a particular person or place, not on whether a gun free zone ordinance is in effect. Prohibiting open carrying of firearms at town and park/recreation facilities is much more likely to reduce gun violence than increase it. The Holly Springs Town Council needs to hear from you BEFORE 5 pm Monday that you support making certain Holly Springs town properties open carry free zones because it is sound public policy to help keep everyone safer. So please email the Town Council with a simple message: Pass the Deadly Weapons Ordinance that would prohibit the open carrying of firearms on certain town properties! Thank you, Becky |
