Dear John,

This what we're working on now

As Parliament returns from its Summer break next week, negotiations with Europe seem to have stalled. The British economy is holding its breath to see what happens when the furlough scheme ends, and how many jobs are lost before Christmas.

And no deal preparations are ramping up on both sides of the Channel.

Everyone in the UK needs a trade deal to be agreed. And we all need the deal to keep Britain's economy working, keep high British standards and keep good healthy food affordable for all.

Our timeline shows we only have a few short months left to get this right.

It looks like you haven't yet signed two of our most vital campaigns.

I really hope I can persuade you to add your name now and join tens of thousands of others all across the UK.

Better Standards <[link removed]>

Our Better Standards campaign highlights the high standards we take for granted but which could be watered down as the price for securing trade deals with other countries.

Britain has some of the highest standards in the world and through the EU we exported many British standards for food quality, food safety, animal welfare and equality and working rights to countries all across Europe.

I do not want British standards to be degraded so that America can sell us chlorinated chicken. Do you?

Affordable Food Deal <[link removed]>

The Affordable Food Deal campaign highlights the effect of new tariffs on imported food - that's new taxes on basic foods that would raise the cost of food for British families.

Tariffs can be avoided if the government does its job and negotiates a proper free trade deal.

That's why we're calling for an Affordable Food Deal. A deal with Europe that keeps Britain's shops stocked with healthy, high quality and affordable food.

Together these campaigns come at the issue of international trade from opposite angles. Together they tell the government that British people want BOTH high standards AND affordable food.

I hope you will add your name to both campaigns. Signing the petitions is just the start - being part of these campaigns means being part of our combined campaign strategy to put pressure on the government and raise awareness in a variety of areas. We have to keep reaching out, we have to find ways to make people listen.

And we have to succeed - our coronavirus-ravaged economy needs a real free trade deal. Hungry families need a real free trade deal. Be part of the solution by signing the petitions now.

Best wishes,

Cary Mitchell
