Governor Walz Celebrates Opening of Minnesota Sustainable Aviation Fuel Hub

On Friday, Governor Walz joined elected officials and leaders from Delta Airlines, Ecolab, and Flint Hills Resources to celebrate the completion of the Minnesota Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF) Hub. 

*“We’re seeing the devastating effects of climate change in our forests right now. That’s why Minnesota is building the sustainable innovations of the future,”* said Governor Walz. *“Our new sustainable aviation fuel hub is reducing our carbon footprint, supporting our farmers, and creating jobs.” *

Located at Flint Hills Resources’ Pine Bend Refinery in Rosemount, the facility can accommodate up to 30 million gallons of neat SAF annually, blend it with conventional jet fuel and deliver blended SAF to MSP Airport through existing pipeline infrastructure. With this capability in place, SAF can now be supplied, blended, and uplifted at MSP Airport in commercial volumes, enabling use of Minnesota’s nation-leading SAF tax credit and solving a critical infrastructure bottleneck.

Governor Walz Celebrates Three Consecutive Months of Job Growth

Governor Walz celebrated three consecutive months of job growth following losses seen during Operation Metro Surge. The Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) announced that Minnesota added 13,200 jobs in June, outpacing the national rate. 

*“Minnesota continues to be a leader in economic recovery and expansion despite national uncertainty,”* said Governor Walz. *“Continued job growth reflects our strategic investments in workforce training, the prioritization of job protections, and support of small businesses impacted by federal operations.”* 

Last week, Governor Walz announced Minnesota’s rank as a top state in the nation for business [ [link removed] ]. Minnesota ranks fifth overall, placing top ten in quality of life, infrastructure, and economic environment. 

Since 2019, Governor Walz has helped create 95,000 new jobs, a 3.2% increase. During this time the number of business establishments in the state grew by more than 35,600 and average weekly wages grew $334, an increase of almost 30%.

Governor Walz receives briefing on Wildfires in northern Minnesota

Last week, Governor Walz convened a meeting of the Executive Council to receive a briefing on the spread of wildfires across northeastern Minnesota. The council voted to extend the peacetime emergency declared in Executive Order 26-08 [ [link removed] ], authorizing continued state assistance and support for 30 days.

*“Wildfires spreading across northern Minnesota are posing an increasing threat to lives, property, and our wilderness,”* said Governor Walz. *“We are staging a coordinated response with state and local partners and extending resources to manage the fires. I am incredibly grateful for the partnership of our Canadian allies and for the tireless work of our firefighters, first responders, and Minnesota National Guard members on the front line, keeping Minnesotans safe.”* 

Amidst unusually dry, hot, and windy weather, wildfires have quickly spread across northern Minnesota, including throughout the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW). The fast moving and rapidly shifting fires pose threats to lives, property, and critical infrastructure, and prompted closure of public access to the BWCAW.
