Demography

This week, MEPs will be busy with
Committee meetings covering topics such as the EU’s long-term budget
and recovery plan, a system of own resources as well as social rights,
culture, human rights, and foreign affairs. On Monday and Tuesday, an
informal meeting of agriculture ministers will take place in Germany.
On Tuesday, Commission Vice-President Šuica will discuss the impact of
demographic change with MEPs.

European Parliament
This week, the Committee on Budgets
(BUDG) will vote on a proposal for a Council decision on the system of
own resources of the EU. The Committee has also tabled a vote on a new
EU4Health Programme, which aims to enhance the Union's action in the
field of health for the period 2021-2027. MEPs will also discuss the
state-of-play of the interinstitutional negotiations on the next MFF
and the EU’s recovery plan, as well as the priorities of the German
Council presidency with Michael Roth, Minister of State for
Europe.
European Commission
This week, Commission Vice-President Dubravka Šuica will address
the European Parliament’s Committee on Employment and Social Affairs
(EMPL) to discuss the Commission’s report on the impact of demographic
change. The report was published in June and outlines the main drivers
of demographic change in Europe, while putting forward ideas to
support people, regions and communities, especially in times of
crises.

Council of the EU
An informal meeting of agricultural
ministers will be hosted by the German Presidency on Monday and
Tuesday in the German town of Koblenz. EU Agriculture Commissioner
Janusz Wojciechowski will take part in the meeting, which will focus
in particular on the lessons learned from the pandemic when it comes
to agriculture. The outcome of the meeting will be shared on Tuesday
by German Minister Julia Klöckner and Commissioner
Wojciechowski.
