The House of Representatives just passed the ACT for ALS Reauthorization Act! As a Co-Chair of the bipartisan ALS Caucus, the effort to get the landmark ACT for ALS law across the finish line in 2021 was the result of the passion and determination of the ALS advocacy community. Working with my Appropriations Committee colleagues, the ALS Caucus, and ALS advocates, we have been successful at making historic investments into these programs. As families impacted by ALS know all too well, we have more work to do. That is why taking this step, and reauthorizing the ACT for ALS Act, is essential. I want to thank Members of the ALS Caucus, including the bill’s sponsor Congressman Quigley, for their work. And I want to give my heartfelt appreciation, once again, to the ALS advocacy community and the families who have been forever changed by ALS.

Earlier this week, I voted along with a majority of the House of Representatives to pass the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2027. The NDAA establishes national security policies and spending authorizations. At my request, the bill includes report language about the pending closure of the state prison adjacent to Naval Surface Warfare Center—Corona and requires a briefing from Navy leadership about potential encroachment issues with possible incompatible development. I’m committed to working with the city of Norco and the Navy to ensure a compatible use of that property is put in place.

I was honored to speak at this week’s Department of War APFIT on the Hill event along with Under Secretary of War for Research and Engineering Emil Michael and Rep. Betty McCollum (D-MN) to celebrate the milestones the program has reached as we work towards delivering new capabilities to our warfighters. When I became Chairman of the House Defense Appropriations Subcommittee, one of my top priorities was disrupting the status quo and overcoming this challenge. It was clear to me that our national security was at risk unless we could find a way to deliver game-changing technology to our warfighters in an expedited fashion. In concert with Rep. McCollum, APFIT was created to address this challenge. Like any disruptive initiative, the APFIT program initially faced skepticism within the Pentagon regarding its necessity. Four years later, however, the program has been thoroughly embraced and is a tremendous success that the all of our military branches increasingly rely on.

Radical energy policies put in place in liberal-led states, like California, continue to hurt working families as well as threaten our national security. I just introduced The National Security Interstate Pipeline Act to authorize the expedited approval of interstate oil and natural gas pipelines that are critical to our national security. The bill will ensure California and other states can be connected to energy-producing regions and keep oil and gas flowing to the critical national security facilities that depend on them. We cannot let radical liberal policies threaten our national and economic security by cutting off oil and gas through regulatory roadblocks.

New Jersey's governor revealed this week that more than 6,000 non-citizens were registered to vote in their state, and hundreds cast ballots in elections. Voter fraud does exist. That's why we need to pass common sense election integrity measures like the SAVE America Act, which I have voted to pass on multiple occasions. The SAVE America would put in place a basic voter ID requirement and ensure we check the citizenship when individuals register to vote. Our democracy must be protected.
