Deputies responded to a traffic collision at approximately 7:35 p.m. Wednesday to the 6600 block of Holmes Avenue, south of Gage Avenue and west of Alameda Street, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. About the same time, the California Highway Patrol received a report of a car-to-car shooting in the vicinity. Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel responded to the crash and pronounced a man dead at the scene. Sheriff’s officials said he had been struck by gunfire. His cause of death was not immediately determined. Authorities did not explain what the vehicle crashed into. According to the sheriff’s department, another man, a woman and a teenage boy were transported to local hospitals with non-life-threatening, crash-related injuries. But it was unexplained if other vehicles or pedestrians were involved, and so it was unclear how they came to be injured. MyNewsLA LAPD tracks shooting suspect to Hollywood Hills residence Police tracked a shooting suspect to a Hollywood Hills home after a man was found suffering from a gunshot wound late Thursday night. Officers responded to the area of Cahuenga Boulevard and Odin Street, just off the 101 Freeway, after receiving reports of a shooting around 10:30 p.m., a Los Angeles Police Department spokesperson confirmed to KTLA. As police arrived, a 27-year-old man approached and said he had been shot, according to the spokesperson. The unidentified victim said he was in the area when someone fired a gun through a closed door and struck him. When the door opened, a male suspect was seen holding a gun, the spokesperson said. The victim was taken to a local hospital in stable condition. Investigators located the 53-year-old suspect shooter inside a nearby residence. However, he did not comply with officers’ requests to come outside. Video from the scene showed the man yelling at officers before closing the home’s front door. A woman was also seen standing in the doorway at one point. KTLA 5 LAPD patrol vehicle upgrades include sirens drivers can feel The Los Angeles Police Department is adding new technology to its black-and-white patrol vehicle fleet, including upgraded sirens designed to alert drivers sooner and improve safety. The so-called Rumbler low-frequency warning system works alongside existing sirens to produce low-frequency sound waves that motorists and pedestrians can both hear and feel. Unlike conventional sirens, police say the low-frequency tones can penetrate sound-insulated vehicles, giving drivers more time to react to approaching emergency vehicles. At the same time, the LAPD is installing the Federal Signal Sync Module, a system that allows multiple patrol vehicles to simultaneously broadcast synchronized prerecorded public safety announcements during evacuations and major operations. The LAPD says the upgrades were added at no additional cost to taxpayers. KTLA 5 D4vd case resumes after investigators testify blood in Tesla match Celeste Rivas Hernandez DNA The murder case against D4vd took a turn during the third day of a preliminary hearing after investigators testified that traces of blood found inside his Tesla and his garage matched Celeste Rivas Hernandez's DNA. On Thursday, prosecutors called several investigators to the stand who said that blood stains that were found inside the Tesla registered to D4vd, whose real name is David Anthony Burke, belonged to the 14-year-old. Her remains were found in the front trunk of a Tesla registered to Burke on Sept. 8, 2025, at the Hollywood Tow Yard. The medical examiner's office determined that Hernandez was killed with "multiple penetrating wounds" in April 2025, several months before her dismembered, decomposing body was found in the Tesla. Burke is charged with first-degree murder with special circumstances, lewd and lascivious acts with an individual under 14 and mutilating a body. CBS 2 Purse, phone and cash reported stolen in Van Nuys robbery A purse, phone and cash were stolen late Thursday when a woman and child were robbed and assaulted in Van Nuys. Officers responded to the call at about 11:30 p.m. in the 6500 block of Hazeltine Avenue about a robber who left the scene. Officers were told that the person assaulted the woman and child before taking the items. Authorities said the robber and victim knew each other, but details about their relationship were not immediately available. No arrests were reported early Friday. The woman told police the man appeared to be wearing Christmas-themed clothes and red pants. The woman and child were transported to a hospital as a precaution, authorities said. Officers remained in the neighborhood for hours as they investigated the report. NBC 4 Authorities Issue Endangered Missing Advisory for At-Risk 45-Year-Old Man in Sun Valley An Endangered Missing Advisory was activated Thursday after a 45-year-old man was reported missing from Sun Valley. James Word was last seen at about 12:20 a.m. Wednesday near Sunland Boulevard and Penrose Street, according to the California Highway Patrol, which activated the alert on behalf of the Los Angeles Police Department. Word was described as a 6-foot-4-inch-tall man weighing 230 pounds with a bald head and brown eyes. Authorities believe Word is traveling in a maroon 1996 Chevrolet Silverado with California license plate 93406K1. Anyone with information about his whereabouts was urged to call 911. The CHP issues an Endangered Missing Advisory to help locate children and other at-risk people who have been abducted or are unable to care for themselves and whose safety is believed to be in danger. MyNewsLA Rapper YG detained amid ongoing probe into 2021 fatal stabbing of Rapper Drakeo the Ruler Rapper YG was detained as police served a search warrant in Burbank amid the ongoing investigation into the 2021 death of rapper Drakeo the Ruler, the California Highway Patrol told NBC Los Angeles Thursday. The CHP, working with the Burbank Police Department's SWAT team, served the warrant in connection with the murder of Drakeo the Ruler, whose legal name is Darrell Caldwell, on Moss Street near Magnolia Boulevard off the 5 Freeway Thursday, the state agency said. During the investigation, rapper YG was detained, not arrested. The CHP did not say why YG was detained although the department told NBCLA that he is not a suspect or a person of interest in the murder investigation. Drakeo the Ruler was stabbed at the "Once Upon a Time in LA" in December 2021. The incident occurred as artists like 50 Cent, Ice Cube and Snoop Dogg were supposed to perform. NBC 4 LA men among 12 indicted in $2 million Nike shoe cargo theft operation Twelve people, including the co-owner of a Melrose Avenue shoe retailer, were indicted this week in what authorities described as a "sophisticated" theft network that stole more than $2 million in Nike shoes from a company warehouse. The high-priced shoes, stolen from a Nike warehouse in Memphis, Tennessee between July 2021 and July 2024, were then sold online or through shoe reseller Coolkicks, according to prosecutors. Bereket Abraham, 39, the co-founder/co-owner of Coolkicks, and Jorge Cuellar, 30, an online shoe reseller and social media figure, both of Los Angeles, are charged in Tennessee with conspiracy to commit interstate transportation of stolen property, according to federal prosecutors. A third Los Angeles man, Roy Harvey Jr., 39, is also among the 12 named in the indictment, which was unsealed Tuesday in the Western District of Tennessee. The charges stemmed from a multi-year investigation that included the LAPD's Cargo Theft Task Force and the FBI. Court papers show that in January 2024, the LAPD arrested Harvey on state charges of receiving stolen property related to the Nike shoes. The arrest prompted the LAPD and the FBI to coordinate their investigations, which found that Abraham and a co-defendant allegedly conspired to print UPS shipping labels using equipment and the UPS account associated with Abraham and his Coolkicks store, the LAPD said Tuesday. NBC 4 BWC: Man grabs Nev. officer’s rifle during arrest North Las Vegas police on Thursday night released body camera footage, home surveillance video and a 911 call from a Sunday incident in which, officers say, a gunman fired shots in a neighborhood and then died in custody. The man who died has been identified by the Clark County coroner’s office as Daniel Lujan Jr ., 39. In a recorded video statement, department spokesperson officer Roberto Vaquera said dispatchers received numerous 911 calls about a man armed with a black rifle who was walking through a neighborhood in the 6000 block of Yellowhammer Place , near Aviary Way and the 215 Beltway, around noon. Vaquera said the man was “randomly firing an AR-15 rifle.” One caller reported that a shirtless man holding a rifle was at the front door of their home on Yellowhammer. The caller told dispatchers they did not know the man. “I have no clue who he is. He’s banging on my door,” the caller told the dispatcher in the 911 call released Thursday. Vaquera also said callers reported the shirtless man “was firing the rifle into the air and in the direction of nearby homes and vehicles.” Police also released home surveillance footage that shows a man using a rifle to bang on a front door before firing at least two shots. The footage also appears to show the shots being fired away from the home and toward the street and flower pots behind the front door. Las Vegas Review-Journal Video: Gunshot detection alert helps N.C. police unravel fake drive-by report, attempted burglary A homeowner shot a man who was attempting to force his way into a Gastonia home, leading to the arrests of the suspected intruder and an alleged accomplice, according to police. Home surveillance video captured a 57-year-old man trying to enter a home on Ware Avenue on July 12. Doorbell camera video shows the man trying to pry open a front door before trying to come through a window. During the attempted break-in, the homeowner fired a gunshot through a window, striking the man. Police said the man, along withhis girlfriend, then drove to a store and called 911, stating that the 57-year-old man had been shot in a drive-by shooting. Video shows officers responding to render medical aid. As detectives investigated the reported drive-by shooting, they learned that the man and his girlfriend were suspects in a July 2 robbery reported at a home on Ware Avenue. Investigators then focused on that area and worked with the Gastonia Police Department’s Real Time Crime Center. The department’s Real Time Crime Center received a gunshot detection alert from one of its 158 Flock Safety sensors at approximately 7:14 a.m., roughly within 100 feet of the Ware Avenue residence. Investigators matched the alert to the location of an attempted burglary.
