The road to cleaner air in Washington is clear. But recent federal actions are blocking the way forward.

Transportation causes nearly half of climate pollution in Washington. Cars and trucks are also a major source of soot and smog. That’s why our state has adopted strong vehicle emission standards to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and protect our communities from tailpipe pollution that can cause cancer, asthma, heart disease, and other health problems.

But now the federal administration is trying to stop states like Washington from enforcing our protections. 

The good news: Washington is fighting back against the federal government’s illegal actions. As our legal challenges proceed, the Department of Ecology is proposing changes that will ensure Washingtonians are protected against lower federal emission standards.
