Republicans seek more and more funding for the Iran War and ICE
Republicans spent the last week before the August district work period pushing a slew of bad spending bills through the House. Their bill to fund the military, the National Defense Authorization Act—gives over $1 trillion in discretionary funds to Pete Hegseth’s Department of Defense. That means he can spend that money however he likes, including Trump’s illegal, unconstitutional war in Iran.
As if trillions of dollars for war wasn’t enough, Trump is attaching his voter suppression bill, the “SAVE America Act,” to the NDAA. The bill would make casting a ballot and registering to vote an uphill battle for millions of Americans. In essence—this package of legislation bankrolls Trump’s illegal war and prevents voters from holding him accountable for the war at the ballot box.
But it doesn’t stop there. Republicans also forced a vote on a government funding bill that gives even more money for Trump’s immigration operations. These are the same out-of-control immigration raids that fatally shot an American citizen in broad daylight in Minneapolis and are shooting law-abiding immigrants across the country. And as if that wasn’t bad enough, the stopgap funding provides TENS OF BILLIONS of additional dollars for the Iran War.
I voted against both pieces of legislation because they amount to colossal misuses of your tax dollars. It’s outrageous that with just days left to deliver for the American people, Republicans wasted their time and your money on cruelty, war, and violence.
