Today is my birthday. And here’s what I want: a Congress that represents the people, not the billionaires.

The majority of my colleagues in Congress are millionaires who are out of touch with the struggles of our communities. Instead of helping Americans with unaffordable healthcare, skyrocketing rent, and rising grocery and gas prices, many members of Congress consistently vote to spend our money on endless wars and genocide.

This week the U.S. House of Representatives passed the National Defense Authorization Act, which also included the fascist-in-chief’s voter suppression bill: the SAVE America Act.

This military spending bill is not final, but it includes the section that would merge the U.S. and Israeli militaries. It would send a record-breaking $1.5 trillion to the Pentagon, half of which will go directly to for-profit weapons corporations that contract with our government. Many of my colleagues own stock in weapons manufacturers and will personally benefit from their votes.

We urgently need more members of Congress who will fight for us.

I created my Rooted In Community Leadership PAC to recruit, support, and elect working class candidates who understand the needs of their communities. We train progressive candidates on the skills to run effective campaigns, and we support them with financial contributions to their campaigns as well as door-knocking and phone calls to help them reach voters.
