Ohio is home to more than 200 data centers — the fifth most in the country. And if we don't put the right guardrails in place, the consequences for communities like ours are going to be real: skyrocketing utility bills, air and water pollution, and noise that disrupts the neighborhoods where our families live.
That burden shouldn't fall on us. It should fall on the Big Tech companies that are profiting from our backyard.
That's why I've introduced three pieces of legislation in seven months to hold them accountable — and I'm not done yet.
My latest bill, the Protecting Communities from Data Center Impacts Act, requires the EPA to study the full environmental footprint of data centers — noise pollution, air quality, water use, carbon emissions, electronic waste — and develop enforceable best practices to protect communities like ours.
Because here's the thing: communities across Southwest Ohio — Cincinnati, Dayton, Lebanon, Monroe — are already responding. They've put moratoriums in place because they're tired of being left out of decisions that affect their lives. I'm fighting to make sure the federal government finally catches up.
