A federal appeals court is going to rule on my case against Pete Hegseth. It could come this week, this month, or a couple of months from now. Honestly, we won’t know when exactly it’s coming until it happens.
But before it lands, I want to make sure you know exactly where things stand.
Last year, I repeated something every single servicemember is taught. For that, the President of the United States said I should be arrested, tried for sedition, and hanged. His Secretary of Defense threatened me with court-martial, censured me, and moved to reduce the rank and pension I earned over 25 years in uniform.
In January, I sued the Secretary of Defense. I never imagined I'd have to do something like that in my life. A federal judge heard the case and ruled in my favor — he rejected Hegseth's arguments. Almost before the ink was dry, Hegseth appealed.
And now, we wait. When that ruling comes, whichever way it goes, we need to be ready to turn on a dime and respond.
Here's what I keep coming back to, John. Hegseth didn't have to appeal. He’s coming after me because Trump’s ordering him to. He's doing it in public, so every other servicemember and veteran in this country can see it.
That's the whole point. It was never just about me. It's about making sure the next person thinks twice before they speak out.
I'm not going to let that happen. But I can't do it on my own.
