I’m writing with an extremely exciting announcement. We’re endorsing Abdul El-Sayed for Senate.

Abdul was fighting for a liveable, affordable future for years before it was politically convenient. In 2018, we endorsed his race for governor, along with other long-shot candidates like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Ilhan Omar. Though Abdul didn’t win then, he helped build a strong movement in Michigan and went on to serve on Sunrise’s board for two years.

Now, the groundwork he laid is paying off. In his run for Senate, he’s been a fierce voice against corporate lobbying in politics and unwavering in his support for working people. He’s a real one.

But now, Super-PACs are spending against him in record amounts. AIPAC has dropped forty million dollars against Abdul, full of racist smears and lies. Corporate lobbyists know that Abdul winning his Senate seat would undo decades of propaganda claiming that populist progressives can’t win swing states. That’s why they’re desperately trying to keep him out of office. 

Only organized people can beat their lies. At doors and on the phones, I’ve had conversation after conversation where I’ve been able to debunk the ads and the lies that people hear, to sway real votes. 

Big wins in Michigan – more than any other primary this year – will set us up to take over Democratic politics in 2028. We need your help. Will you join a phonebank?

As wildfire smoke coats Michigan and heatwaves kill dozens of vulnerable Americans, it’s more important than ever that we put champions in office who will stand up to corporate lobbyists and fight for working people.
