Dear John

We have a bumper edition for you this month, with lots of updates and ways for you to get involved – including our first Welsh slaughterhouse investigation, just published today!

Farmers Fresh slaughterhouse investigation

Breaking news: New slaughterhouse investigation at Farmers Fresh, Wales!

Our first investigation at a Welsh slaughterhouse finds blatant staff incompetence and brutal treatment of animals. Workers were filmed mishandling and throwing sheep, trampling over them and improperly stunning them.

Stand up for non-native animals

The government has recently launched a consultation to investigate opinions on non-native wildlife, and actions they should take.

Many of the proposals by the government are shocking, and suggest wide-ranging culls of ‘non-native species’. Please take the opportunity to speak up for these persecuted animals, and also speak out against the changes that will make it illegal to rescue and release grey squirrels.

Please do this today, as the deadline is 12 September.

Vegan Student Survival Guide

Calling all students! Order our new Vegan Student Survival Guide!

As the new academic year draws closer, Animal Aid has produced a new guide aimed at helping students who are already vegan or want to go vegan. It features lots of useful information including shopping tips, cheap and easy recipes, nutritional information and tips and advice from former and current students and chef and campaigner Jack Monroe. They are of course free, so if you are already vegan, or want to give it a try and are a student, why not order one?

Help our petition reach 250,000 signatures!

We are calling for a ban on racing pregnant mares after poor race horse, Beyondtemptation, and her unborn foal were killed in a horrific fall when racing on a British racecourse.  She was forced to race for a third time in just 17 days whilst pregnant.

Please sign our petition, share it on social media and encourage as many people as you can to sign. Help us reach 250,000 signatures!

reindeer

Dare we mention the C word…?

It’s only the beginning of September but event organisers are turning their attention to Christmas. We want to continue to encourage local councils to move away from hosting events using live animals such as reindeer, camels and penguins.

Have your heard about any planned events that will feature live animals? Please let us know!
