Friend, what exactly is "advanced manufacturing"? 

Fuel production? Chemical manufacturing? Strip mining? 

You might be surprised to find out that it's not clearly defined in our state laws, allowing industrial facilities to skip environmental review—even if they're right next to someone's home.

There's a bill in Sacramento that would close that loophole, but only if a critical committee, led by Assemblymember Buffy Wicks, chooses to move it forward instead of quietly killing it.

Tell Assemblymember Wicks: Move this solution forward and protect communities! 

Fixing this issue is more than a theoretical nice-to-have. Just this May, an explosion threat at a facility in Garden Grove forced more than 50,000 people to evacuate. Without environmental protections in place, dangerous industrial facilities like this can be built right next to homes, hospitals, and daycares without community input.

Last year's advanced manufacturing loophole is one of the biggest environmental rollbacks in California's recent history. It was the first time that the state legislature exempted hazardous land uses from our environmental review laws—and hazardous land uses are the reason we have those laws in the first place! 

We have to limit the threats posed by industrial facilities to our clean air, health, and safety. The bill we're trying to pass adds clear environmental guardrails to the exemptions for advanced manufacturing and ensures that the health of workers, communities, and the surrounding environment are protected.
