Hi John,

Big Tech is racing to build thousands of data centers across the country.
These data centers are gobbling up vast amounts of electricity and driving
up electric bills for everyday Americans who are already struggling to
make ends meet.^1

Data centers are also handcuffing us to climate-wrecking fossil fuels, as
utility companies build new gas power plants and keep aging coal plants
online long past their retirement dates in order to meet the demand.^2

While Big Tech profits, the rest of us are left to pay the price: through
soaring electric bills and worsening climate disasters. But it doesn’t
have to be this way.

We don’t have a moment to lose, John. Right now, 1,489 new data
centers are currently being planned or are already under construction. If
they’re completed, they’ll demand as much electricity as the entire
country of Spain by 2028.^3

Where is that energy going to come from? How much is it going to cost us?

People aren’t waiting around to find out.

Communities are fighting back against data centers, and they’re winning.
Local activists blocked or delayed at least 75 projects in the first three
months of 2026.^4 And earlier this month, New York became the first state
to pass a data center moratorium of its own.^5

Now, we need to take it nationwide. A new bill has been introduced in
Congress to declare a moratorium on new data centers and give us time to
fully understand the risks to our communities and our climate.^6 But it
won’t get the fair consideration it deserves if your lawmakers don’t hear
from you. Will you send Congress a message today?
