As Trump’s obsession with rigging elections grows, Republicans are making desperate moves to ram through the dangerous SAVE America Act in ANY way they can.
On Tuesday, the House linked the SAVE Act to an unrelated spending bill to try to force it through. Then yesterday, it advanced a reconciliation package that would hand Donald Trump $10 BILLION to make it harder for millions of Americans to vote.
Now the fight moves to the Senate, where we have a real chance to stop these voter suppression efforts. But it’s going to take MASSIVE public pressure to make sure the Senate stands up to Trump’s pressure campaign. The SAVE Act is just one key piece of Trump’s plan to hold on to power by any means necessary.
Republicans have used the Supreme Court’s gutting of the Voting Rights Act to get rid of majority-Black districts. They’ve declared war on the left with dangerous attacks on organizations fighting back. And now they’re trying to make it harder for MILLIONS of Americans to vote with the SAVE Act, which would impose new voter ID laws and ban virtually all mail-in voting.
It’s no accident Republicans are tying this attack on voting to funding bills that usually pass with bipartisan support. They’re trying to hold government operations and critical services hostage unless they get their way. That means risking a government shutdown to push through an anti-voter agenda — and using our money to fund it.
Meanwhile, people across America are telling us exactly what they want: affordable groceries, rents that don’t skyrocket, healthcare that isn’t out of reach. Instead, Congress is burying billions in bills that build new barriers between us and the voting booth.
