Friend,

This past week at the Republican convention, Donald Trump and his administration flagrantly violated the Hatch Act -- the long-standing law that prohibits federal employees from engaging in partisan political activity when they're working in an official capacity. The most egregious example was Trump's Thursday night speech from the White House South Lawn.

Trump has long shown he doesn't care about the rule of law, and now he's throwing it in our faces. Voting him out of office alone won't fix the damage he's done; we need to strengthen our laws to stop anyone inspired by Trump's brazenness from ever holding a campaign rally from the South Lawn again.

I'll be co-sponsoring a bill with my Democratic colleagues to explicitly ban political events and party conventions from being held on White House grounds. This will make me an even bigger target for pro-Trump Republicans, so I appreciate anything you can chip to help me continue to fight for accountability and transparency in our government.

Political pundits may tell you that no one cares about "small" issues like this. But if we allow further erosion of the fine line between civil service and politics, we'll have a government that's open to the highest bidder -- a government incapable of and unwilling to deliver healthcare, economic, environmental, and racial justice. We'll see long-standing institutions weaponized further for anti-democratic means, whether it's the USPS or the Justice Department.

I represent many career civil servants as the Congresswoman for VA-10. I am committed to this fight because I see the incredible work they do every day for the American people. We must do everything we can to preserve that work.

I cannot win this fight alone, and I'm facing new attacks from the NRCC this week for sticking to my values. If you're with me, please chip in a few dollars before our end-of-month deadline tomorrow.
