Primary Election

Dear Fellow Republicans,

The Primary Election is almost here, and I want to encourage every Republican to make a plan to vote.

Historically, midterm elections and especially primary elections—have the lowest voter turnout. This year, we must reverse that trend. Every vote matters, and every ballot helps determine the future of our party and our state.

This is your only opportunity to help select our Republican statewide ticket. We have two candidates for Governor—Gary Cordery and Ken Fujiyamaand four candidates for Lieutenant Governor—Daniel AnthonyHopelin (Hope) CresenciaMargaret Rose Mejia, and Robert E. Peters. I encourage every Republican to do your homework. Visit each candidate's website where available, attend forums, watch interviews, and learn about their vision for Hawaiʻi before casting your ballot.

As you evaluate these candidates, ask yourself an important question:  Who can build the strongest statewide ticket to win in November?

We need a leadership team who can unite Republicans (and crossover Democrats in the General Election), energize volunteers, inspire new voters, engage our churches, motivate our young people, reach every island and every demographic, attract independents and disaffected voters, and build the broad coalition necessary to compete statewide. The choices we make in this primary will shape our party's future and determine our ability to grow the Republican movement across Hawaiʻi.

Many of you will also have contested Republican primaries for the State House and State Senate on your ballot. Depending on where you live, Republican voters will be selecting nominees in several legislative districts, including:

State House: Districts 8, 26, 30, 39, 43, and 46

State Senate: District 20

Contested primaries are a sign of a healthy and growing Republican Party. Competition brings new ideas, stronger candidates, and greater engagement. But once the primary is over, we must come together as one team. The decisions we make today will determine the Republican team that carries our message into the General Election.

Voting is both a privilege and a responsibility. During my years serving our nation in uniform, I witnessed firsthand people living in countries where citizens do not have the freedom to choose their leaders. Those experiences reinforced something I have never forgotten: the right to vote is precious. It has been secured through the sacrifices of generations of Americans, and it should never be taken for granted or squandered.

Please make your voting plan today. Vote early or return your ballot on time. Encourage your family, friends, neighbors, and fellow Republicans to do the same. Every conversation matters. Every vote matters.

MY CHALLENGE TO YOU

I have one personal challenge for every Republican across Hawaiʻi.

Don't just cast your own ballot—help three other Republicans cast theirs!

Call a friend. Text a family member. Check on a neighbor. Offer someone a ride to a voter service center if they need one. Remind them to return their mail ballot on time. Talk about why this election matters.

Imagine the impact if every Republican reached just three more voters. Together, we could dramatically increase Republican turnout, strengthen our ticket, and build the momentum we need heading into the General Election. Winning elections doesn't happen by accident—it happens when each of us takes personal responsibility for growing the vote.

Let's reverse the trend of low primary turnout and show that Hawaiʻi Republicans are engaged, informed, and ready to build a winning team for November.

Together, let's shape our ticket, unite after the primary, and work toward victory this fall.

With gratitude,

Shirlene D. Ostrov
