This Saturday, we and our friends are holding actions around the city to demand an end to ICE killings.
On July 7, Lorenzo Salgado Araujo was shot and killed by an ICE agent in Houston, Texas. He was a dad driving a work van with his crew when he was gunned down. Then on Monday, July 13, ICE unleashed the same horrific tactics, fatally shooting 26-year-old Johan Sebastian Guerrero when they stopped his vehicle in Biddeford, Maine. His wife and toddler were forced to witness his murder. Then on July 14, another person was killed in Florida while fleeing from ICE agents.
Their deaths add to the growing number of people who are killed by ICE on the street and in detention. We understand that ICE is becoming a roving death squad targeting immigrants, people of color, and those who defend them. And we are always fighting back.
This Saturday, July 25, join us in actions around the city to make a statement against ICE and become an active defender of our communities.
11:30 AM, Ocean Beach: “Abolish” Human Banner. Join our friends at the Human Banner at Ocean Beach Stairwell 17 to make another striking visual in defiance of ICE. The Human Banner is a highly successful visibility event that regularly makes the news and draws people to our cause, so it’s a great opportunity to make a difference.

12:00 PM, Van Ness and O’Farrell: Protest to Demand Justice for Lorenzo, Justice for Johan, and ICE OUT. Join us at our usual spot at the weekly Trump Regime Takedown at the corner of Van Ness and O’Farrell to demand ICE OUT. Trump Regime Takedown, and especially the anti-ICE protests held there, are the regular gathering and networking spot for activists around the city. We will provide visibility to the community and drivers in this high-traffic area, as well as distribute information on how to help.

3:00 PM, Sue Bierman Park (Drumm and Washington): Indivisible SF Vigil to demand Justice for Lorenzo, Johan and all victims of ICE. Join us at Sue Bierman Park for a peaceful vigil for the victims of ICE, where we will hold space for the people affected by this racist violence. We will be delivering prayers from members of the community, singing, distributing information on how to fight back, and raising money for local families affected by ICE attacks.

Now is the time to get informed on the new, lethal ICE tactics and how you can help. It is also a critical time to use your dollars to help families whose breadwinners and loved ones have been killed or taken away.

Donate to SF’s local Immigration Emergency Relief Fund run by our friends at CANA. They’ve raised over $10,000 so far, but the need continues. Anecdotally from our networks, the Bay Area averages as many as six ICE kidnappings a week—some of whom are breadwinners whose families will need assistance to survive. Thanks to your vigilance and legislative pressure, California is already doing a lot to hinder ICE. But as a federal force whose crimes are not only unpunished, but actively encouraged by the Trump administration, ICE is still able to do a lot of harm that we simply can’t stop. Helping the victims get back on their feet is a small act that can really make a difference for the affected families.
Sign up for the ICE Watch in A Shadow Surge virtual training on Wednesday, July 29 at 4 PM. Led by States at the Core and experienced anti-ICE organizers, this training will bring you up-to-date with new ICE tactics and basic skills in defending your community.
Join Adopt-A-Corner, the hyperlocal ICE watch network that a lot of us already participate in. The best way to protect your community is by getting to know your neighbors and working with them on a regular basis, keeping an eye on your immediate surroundings and knowing who to spread information to.
Saturday, July 25 at 1 PM: Embassy of the Refugee - A Political Art Gathering
Join Embassy of the Refugee and artist Kaleb Duarte at Fulton Plaza 1–8 PM this Saturday for a day of performance, music, ceremony, conversation, and collective memory as artists from Guatemala, Mexico, and across the United States activate the Pioneer Monument through site-specific works that reimagine public space and the stories our monuments tell.

Indivisible SF endorses the Affordable Housing Guarantee Act on the San Francisco ballot this fall! Voters can ensure that existing Prop I transfer tax revenues be spent on truly affordable Social Housing, rent relief and eviction protection for people of all income levels. We encourage all our members and the public to VOTE YES on the AHGA and work to help it pass.

Call voters on the phone, Wednesdays starting July 22.
Donate money: Make sure the campaign has the resources to inform SF voters, counter disinformation and GOTV.

What is the NDAA, and how are we stopping it from advancing?
The National Defense Authorization Act is the annual bill that funds each year’s military spending—and, as such, is typically considered a “must-pass” bill by Members of Congress. MAGA Republicans try to use that leverage to force through the worst of their agenda without the consent of the rest of us, and Democrats in Congress too often roll over.
This year’s NDAA is MUCH worse than last year’s, including a huge increase in spending, money for Israel’s army without oversight, and the SAVE Act. Therefore, the fight to remove these terrible provisions is that much more intense.
But there’s good news: Democrats in Congress are now actively resisting most of the MAGA legislative agenda and, to some degree, MAGA appointments. Democratic opposition has been most effective in the Senate where Democrats are using the filibuster to block MAGA legislation—including this year’s NDAA.

In recent weeks, large parts of the Midwest and Northeast of the United States, as well as neighboring areas in Canada, have been experiencing smoke from wildfires in Canadian forests.
We’ve been in that situation ourselves before, and back in 2023, we documented our experience and our recommendations.

Last Chance before Recess: No Votes for Crypto Regulation Without Corruption Guardrails
Last year, the House passed the CLARITY Act (H.R. 3633), a bill promoted as “crypto regulation” which actually serves the billionaires and bad actors at the center of today’s crypto chaos. This bill does nothing to protect consumers, close money laundering loopholes, or stop the biggest threat of all: Trump’s crypto-fueled bribery machine. Senate leadership plans to begin consideration of the CLARITY Act next week. It could come up for a floor vote before the Senate’s August recess, possibly before the House recess begins on July 23.
Here’s why the CLARITY Act is dangerous:
It creates a loophole for companies to “self-certify” stocks as crypto tokens, basically allowing corporations to create their own unregulated currencies and stripping away the Securities and Exchange Commission’s regulatory authority, thereby risking $120 trillion in retirement, pension, and other investor savings. (This went poorly last time, too: A weak federal government similarly allowed for private currencies in the mid-1800s, leading to the biggest banking system failure in the nation’s history other than the Great Depression in the 1930s.)
It allows FDIC-insured banks to speculate like crypto hedge funds and hold volatile collateral, putting taxpayers and the banking system at risk. (See above re: bank failure.)
It fails to close loopholes in money laundering and sanctions evasion, leaving gaps that enable criminals and foreign adversaries to use services like mixers and decentralized exchanges to move money through our financial system.
It pushes oversight of crypto tokens into the underfunded Commodity Futures Trading Commission, blocks Securities and Exchange Commission-required disclosures, and weakens antifraud protections.
