John,
Between the picnics and festivities, let us not forget the history of this day.
We owe a great debt to the men, women, and even children who put their lives on the line to fight for the workers’ rights that we all enjoy today: the 40-hour work-week and the eight-hour workday; paid sick leave; holiday, overtime, and vacation time; social security – the list goes on and on.
Today is about honoring their sacrifices. On this Labor Day, I am taking a moment to thank our working families for their sacrifices and hard work. It is the workers that have allowed our economy and our society to prosper for generations.
Happy Labor Day to you and your family.
