The WNBA has made social justice the primary platform for its 2020 season. Several of the league's games were postponed this week as part of the protest among professional sports teams regarding the shooting of Jacob Blake. The league also previously dedicated the entire season to Breonna Taylor, with some teams including her name on the back of their jerseys in her honor.



The cancellations and protests underscore an emerging new reality in big-time sports in which athletes are increasingly emboldened to express themselves on racial injustice and other social issues.



And as always, on and off the court, Black women are helping lead the charge.
