Hey John,
I just confronted Bridget Brink, a Democrat running to represent me in Congress, about why she held a fundraiser with ExxonMobil. It reminded me why I’m throwing down so hard for her opponent, Will Lawrence, in the race for MI-07.
Watch my interaction with Bridget Brink here:
Brink gives the same tired response we see from every other bought-out Big Oil shill who’s forced to confront a young person freaking out about climate catastrophe: deny, deflect, avoid eye contact, run away.
I’m sick of it. Deadly smoke and heatwaves are here, NOW, and we’re running out of time to address climate change before it leaves my generation with a future that is utterly unrecognizable. Big Oil Democrats like Bridget Brink have got to go. Fast.
Luckily, Brink is facing an incredible climate champion: Will Lawrence. Will helped co-found the Sunrise Movement, was instrumental in passing the Inflation Reduction Act, and in Congress, would act as a leading moral voice for our generation.
Pundits are watching MI-07 because it’s a swing district, and Will is (narrowly) ahead in the polls. If he wins, it could send shockwaves through the entire Democratic establishment. It’s time to prove that voters are fed up with bought-out politicians and that populist, progressive climate champions are the path forward.
They’re coming after us with a flurry of cash and attack ads, but we have something more powerful: a movement behind us.
I’m fighting like hell for Will Lawrence because I haven’t given up on my future. Will you join me?
In solidarity,
Sydney
P.S. Are you interested in coming to Michigan? We have dozens of Sunrisers travelling from all across the country to help Will get elected. If you’re interested, fill out this form.
