THE WEEK BEHIND

Most Democratic candidates for office in Alabama gathered in Montgomery. It was a chance for us all to meet, exchange ideas, and hear one another speak. It was truly something to see the party's diversity; to hear the ideas that are reaching the public; and to see the candidates' passion.

The second event was a meeting of the FLM Alumni. They’re a group of people from Five Points, LaFayette, and Mill Town in Chambers County who are working together to improve quality of life in their community. They’re not getting paid a nickel; they receive very little recognition; yet they keep showing up for meetings and organizing events simply out of love for their community.

History and Expectations

I am really proud of the career I had before I got into politics. I spent 30 years serving my country in the Army and the Intelligence Community. I completed three deployments to Baghdad, Iraq; Bagram Air Base, Afghanistan; and Kabul, Afghanistan.

Mike Rogers has been a politician his entire life. There’s nothing inherently wrong with that, but Mike’s main goal seems to be to prove his loyalty to his party and its leader. Rogers voted for or stood silently by as this government moved in a direction that is having a devastating effect on the people of his district.

If I were just running against Mike Rogers, it would be so simple. But I’m not running against Mike Rogers. I’m running against 150 years of single-party rule and the expectation that the opposition party in Alabama doesn’t have a chance. You can help us defy expectations...

A Few Things to Think About

ALABAMA IN THE NEWS

📰 Ambulances running again in rural Alabama county: Short-term fixes ‘not gonna solve it’

Ambulance service has resumed in Greene County after state and local officials secured funding for two replacement vehicles, but county leaders say the temporary solution does not address the long-term financial challenges facing rural emergency medical services. The situation highlights the need for sustainable government funding as many rural Alabama counties continue to struggle with ambulance shortages and limited emergency care access.

📰 Alabamians are facing more debt collections lawsuits than ever, says report

A new report found that Alabama saw a record 108,308 debt collection lawsuits in 2025, with cases surging since 2023 and disproportionately affecting vulnerable residents, including many in majority-Black counties. The report recommends stronger consumer protections and highlights that broader economic policies to improve income security are needed to reduce the growing burden of debt.

📰 Families weigh expanded tax-free savings against rising back-to-school costs

Alabama's expanded back-to-school sales tax holiday raises the price limits on tax-free items to better reflect inflation, allowing more school supplies and other purchases to qualify. While families welcome the savings, many say rising costs for essentials like groceries, gas, and school supplies continue to strain household budgets.

One Last Thought Until Next Week

This is a dark time in America. Our economy is more skewed in favor of the rich than it has been since the 19thcentury’s Gilded Age.

Everywhere, we see our democratic institutions under attack. People who push back against the government can find themselves under criminal investigation for no other reason than that they exercised their right to free speech.

And yet, across the state, we see candidates step up to fight for the people who don’t have a voice in Alabama politics.

And we see individuals making an effort to improve their communities.

It gives me hope for the future.

We are 105 days away from the general election.

We'll talk soon,

Lee
