In 1989 I bought a little radio station that was just getting by.



Everyone said that I was crazy.



But then a guy named Rush Limbaugh called in. He said he was having a tough time getting his show on air because talking about God and politics was “too controversial” for the mainstream.



So I gave Rush a shot – and it ended up being one of the best decisions of my life.



In less than three months, we flew up the charts from the 40th ranked radio station in Houston to the number one spot.

That right there taught me a valuable lesson:People don’t want to be talked at. They want to be talked to – like real humans – truthfully, directly, and without apology.



I carry that lesson with me everywhere I go.



What Rush taught me is a big reason why I’m Lt. Governor today, and why this moment brought me right here to you.
