Hey --
Thank you for helping me fight for the people of New York's 19th District. Your dedication to our shared ideas and values is what drives me every day.
So, as we enjoy Labor Day with friends and family, let's take a moment to reflect on the significance of this day and recommit ourselves in the fight for workers' rights.
Unions have long been the backbone of the working class, winning protections that benefit all of us. Thanks to our brothers and sisters in labor, we have improved child labor laws, workplace safety protections, weekends off, protections against workplace discrimination, and more.
But over the last few decades, too many politicians have been pushing and passing union-busting "right to work" laws to help enrich huge corporations at the expense of workers. While the economy has doubled in size over the last forty-plus years, union membership has fallen to record lows, wages have remained stagnant, and income inequality has skyrocketed. Americans are working harder and making less because unions have come under attack.
In Congress, I'm fighting back by co-sponsoring the Protecting the Right to Organize Act (PRO Act). This critical piece of legislation protects the rights of workers to organize a union and collectively bargain for higher wages and better benefits. If we are going to rebuild an economy that gives all workers a shot at the American Dream, we must pass the PRO Act into law.
New York's 19th District is my home, and I believe it is my mission to be an advocate for everyday Americans -- not big corporations or special interests. So, I will always fight to advance workers' rights, promote small businesses, and protect labor unions.
Together, we can ensure all workers are guaranteed a good wage, equal pay for equal work, access to affordable healthcare, safe working conditions, and a secure retirement.
Have a happy and safe Labor Day,
-- Antonio Delgado
