When 350 Action began our endorsement process, Ed Markey was the first incumbent we endorsed. Ed Markey has represented Massachusetts in the House and now the Senate since 1976. In that time, he has shown himself to be a die-hard advocate for people and our planet. And he's continuously fought for solutions that the climate and justice demand.
Markey introduced the Green New Deal to the Senate, and has been fighting for that vision ever since. But next Tuesday, Senator Markey is running in a tough primary race to keep his seat.
Markey boldly supported a Green New Deal when Democratic party leaders still referred to it as the “Green Dream, or whatever.” He has been in solidarity with youth climate activists, new leaders in Congress like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and climate organizations like us.
We believe that no victory truly ends on election night. We must hold all politicians accountable. We must keep fighting for a Green New Deal. But, if you believe that our nation deserves bold climate policy that builds a 100% clean energy economy, creates millions of good union jobs, invests in communities most impacted by the climate crisis, and gives us a fighting chance to stop the worst impacts of climate change - we’re going to have to fight for Ed Markey.
