Three American service members were killed in the Middle East this weekend.

Two in Jordan, when Iranian missiles and drones got through our defenses. One in Iraq. That brings the number of Americans killed in this war to seventeen.

I spent 21 years in the Navy flying F/A-18s off carrier decks. I've sat on the catapult with live ordnance waiting for the order to launch. I've known people who didn't come home. It did not have to happen this way.

This war is nearly five months old. Donald Trump started it without ever asking Congress. He signed a ceasefire, then blew it up. We are now nine straight nights into a new round of bombing with no plan, no authorization, and no end that anyone can describe. And this weekend, three more families got the visit.

Congress had the power to stop this. Not once, but twice. Twice the House voted on whether to make this president come explain his war and get authorization like the Constitution requires.

Both times, Rob Wittman voted no.

He sits on the Armed Services Committee. He knows exactly what these decisions cost, and he had the vote in his hand. He chose to let one man keep waging war alone.

He has to be replaced. And I understand, down in a place I can't fully put into words, what this moment demands.

I know what we ask of those crews. I know what an unclear mission does to the people carrying it out. I've worked inside the committee that writes the defense bill, at NATO, at the Pentagon. I know how to ask the hard questions and how to make a president answer them.

And I will never, not once, treat a war authorization as a routine vote.

On August 4th, this district picks a nominee. I'm asking to be the one who takes this fight to Rob Wittman in November. And I can't do it without you, because I don't take a dime of corporate PAC money.
