Friend, long before I served in Congress or as Secretary of the Interior, I made a living selling jars of my homemade salsa. I’d prepare my salsa and deliver jars to mom-and-pop shops across the state, often with Somáh riding with me in the back seat.

While I started my salsa company because I didn't have access to childcare, I also loved being my own boss, seeing my salsa fill the shelves all over New Mexico, and sharing my homemade recipe.

I also learned firsthand how difficult it is to start a small business. From permits and paperwork to long waits for answers and setting up the right bank accounts, it often felt like there was one hurdle after another.

I’m committed to making that process easier. When New Mexicans have a dream for a business, I want to ensure they have the support they need to turn that dream into a reality.

As part of my plan to make life better for all New Mexicans, I will launch an Office of Small Business. This office will coordinate development programs, fill the gaps created by Trump’s funding cuts, and provide a centralized, online platform for grants, capital, and other resources to help businesses get off the ground.
