News from Macon, Cuthbert, and Washington, DC. Here are three things you need to know today:

Sanford Bishop for Congress

Dear John,

I want to share some updates with you from Congress and across the nation. Here are three things you need to know:

  1. Following hearings and legislative action by the House of Representatives, Postmaster General DeJoy agreed to cease new changes to the USPS until after the November election. While this is a step in the right direction, DeJoy made no commitment to reverse the changes that have already been made – and the Senate and White House continue to demonstrate their failure to act. The fight for voter protections is far from over.

  2. I visited the USPS Processing and Distribution Center in Macon to speak with the affected postal workers. They expressed concerns that the sudden staff cuts and mailbox removals will hurt thousands of Georgians who depend on functional mail service to receive medications and pay bills, particularly in agricultural and rural communities.

  3. Also in Georgia, the Southwest Georgia Regional Medical Center here in Cuthbert and the Northridge Medical Center in Commerce announced that they will close their doors in October. This will mark nine rural hospitals that have shut down in the last decade – and the financial crisis threatens dozens more. Our public-facing institutions are facing dire consequences from the pandemic, and we must invest in rural hospitals, infrastructure, and public health for all Georgians.

This coming Monday marks the end-of-summer fundraising deadline. This is one of the final opportunities to achieve a public goal before the election – and we have fallen behind. We need to raise $6,200 by August 31, so I must ask for your help. Will you contribute $20, $50, $100, $250, or any amount you can afford?

Any donation you make today goes directly into calling undecided voters, running online ads, and reaching out to communities that have not voted since 2008. We are working around the clock to ensure a free, fair, and safe election, but we cannot continue this work without your help. I am asking you to dig deep, John:
