Hey friend,
Despite the continued rise of COVID-19 cases, an epidemic of job loss, more evidence of violent, systemic racism in Kenosha, and a devastating hurricane on the Gulf Coast – Mitch McConnell refuses to come back from his vacation.
It’s clearer than ever that we need more effective, empathetic leaders representing us in Washington. We need more leaders like Doug.
As Digital Director, I’ve seen all the work Doug’s been doing and wanted to share with you what real leadership looks like during a crisis – just a few of the things Doug has done for us over the past months:
Doug’s bill, the Build Health Care Equipment in America Act, would create thousands of jobs for those workers left unemployed by this crisis, repurpose unused factory buildings across Alabama and America, and ensure our PPE is made up to the highest American standards.
Doug knows that this crisis has disproportionately affected our communities of color and communities in need. He knows that minority-owned businesses are beloved parts of our neighborhoods, and throughout this crisis, he’s been listening to and fighting for the particular needs of our communities of color and their livelihoods.
Doug has championed the advice of medical experts, uplifting them to combat dangerous disinformation being spread across Alabama. He’s held frequent press conferences with health professionals including Dr. Fauci, he pushed Gov. Ivey to institute early stay-at-home orders, and spoke out for the depoliticization of basic protections like mask-wearing.
The strain on our health care system and the heroes working in it that has been revealed over the past months cannot be ignored, even after this crisis is over. Doug has introduced multiple pieces of bipartisan legislation to modernize and democratize our medical system so that everyone has access to the care they need, no matter the circumstances.
While Doug has been fighting for us, McConnell and his cronies in the Senate have been blocking attempt after attempt at bipartisan crisis relief so that their big-business friends can keep profiting off of our hardship. Now, McConnell wants to fill Doug’s seat with another rubber-stamp for his partisan agenda and he’s spending millions to make that happen.
Doug needs your help to fight back so he can keep fighting for us. If you agree we need more leaders like Doug, pitch in $20 or whatever you can to keep him in office >>
We’re in this together,
Cara Schumann
Digital Director
