John, there’s no time to waste.
The state House is scheduled to override Gov. Cooper’s budget veto this afternoon, so I need you to urge your legislators to uphold the veto ASAP! >> [link removed]
The governor used his veto stamp because this bad budget keeps kicking the can down the road on GenX and hog waste, underfunds DEQ, and threatens clean air and water for every North Carolinian.
We deserve a budget that protects our basic rights and reflects our environmental values. That’s not what we got.
Gov. Cooper is standing up for us, and now we need to stand with him.
Email your legislators right now, John >> [link removed]
It’s been two years since GenX hit the headlines, and we’re still waiting for our leaders to get serious about detecting and regulating it and other so-called PFAS chemicals which are poisoning our drinking water.
We’ve waited even longer for our government to get tough on Smithfield Foods. The new hog farm permit proposed earlier this year would be a good start. But legislators are in Smithfield’s pocket, and the budget would delay the new rules yet another year.
Lawmakers should sustain the governor’s veto and go back to the drawing board.
Tell them to come up with a budget that serves and protects the health and quality of life of all North Carolinians.
