At the end of this note, I’m going to ask you to chip in $3 [[link removed]] toward my re-election effort in MI‑08. But first, I want to tell you why this race matters – and what we’re fighting for.

I grew up in a working-class family right here in Mid-Michigan. My dad worked long hours in construction. My mom worked hard to keep everything together. They taught me that if you put in an honest day's work, you ought to be able to build a good life.

[link removed] [[link removed]] My dad and I!That meant being able to buy a home. Raise a family. Afford a doctor's visit when someone got sick. Take a vacation every once in a while. And retire with dignity after a lifetime of hard work.

That was the Michigan Dream. But today, too many of us are wondering if it's still possible.

People are working just as hard as my parents did, but groceries cost more. Housing is harder to afford. Health care and prescription drugs keep getting more expensive. Too many parents are wondering whether their kids will have the same opportunities they did.

That's why I ran for Congress.

I'm fighting to lower costs, protect Medicare and Social Security, bring good-paying jobs back to Mid-Michigan, and make sure working families – not billionaires and special interests – have someone in Washington who's on their side.

But to keep doing that work, we have to win this race.

National Republicans are on track to spend millions trying to defeat me, and President Trump just endorsed my opponent because they know this seat could decide who controls the House.
