This is my opponent Scott Desjarlais. Just a month ago, after unspeakable damage to our communities, he celebrated funding ICE… and insisted it’s for the safety of Americans.
But let’s be clear here, George Washington was a British subject born in colonial America. Alexander Hamilton was born in the Caribbean. Thomas Paine came from England. James Wilson came from Scotland. Long before the United States even existed, the people who shaped it were people who crossed oceans, built new lives, and helped define what this country would become.
In other words, the word immigrant has been part of the American story since the very beginning, and funding breaking down that community isn’t some fix-all.

Lately, though, you’d think the word “immigrant” itself was some kind of insult. It isn’t. An immigrant is simply someone who comes to a new country. Throughout American history those people have built farms, cities, railroads, schools, businesses, and communities. They’ve served in our military, cared for our neighbors, started companies, and raised families that are just as American as anyone else.
The word immigrant isn’t a cuss word. It’s part of the American story.
When politicians reduce complicated history to a single soundbite, it shrinks the conversation instead of expanding it. America wasn’t built by one group of people or one generation. It was built by pioneers, workers, farmers, builders, dreamers, and yes, immigrants too. That has always been the reality of this country, whether some people want to admit it or not.
I’m not running to inflame debates or score viral moments online. This campaign exists because communities need leaders who actually show up, listen, and focus on the real challenges families are facing every day. Keeping our families safe, supporting struggling small businesses, helping families trying to get ahead, and aid parents working to give their kids better opportunities than they had.

Because at the end of the day, America’s strength has never come from dividing people into categories. It has come from people showing up, working hard, and building something bigger together. That’s the future I’m fighting for.
