COVID-19 has forced 50 U.S. newsrooms to shut down in a “media extinction event.” Please help make sure we don't suffer the same fate.

Friend,

Since the coronavirus hit, more than 50 newsrooms in America have been forced to shut down, in what is being called a “media extinction event.” And that's following a decade in which half of all newsroom jobs at U.S. newspapers have been eliminated.

No wonder Donald Trump gets away with so many lies.

Common Dreams is one of the only news sources in the country that has avoided these kinds of mass layoffs, but that's only because of donations from our readers. As a nonprofit newsroom, if we aren't able to meet our fundraising targets, then we surely will suffer the same fate.

That's why I'm so concerned right now: Because with just three days to go, we're still $28,000 behind our goal for our pre-election Summer Campaign.

The death spiral in journalism is happening at the very moment when our democracy is most in danger.

Please donate to help reach our Summer Campaign goal by Monday night and us avoid the devastating layoffs that have affected so many other news sources. All donations will be matched by a generous donor.

DONATE NOW

With thanks,
