It is an incredibly difficult time for this country. The attempts to erase history, the attacks on immigrants, and equally as devastating and further reaching: the attacks on voting rights.

Following the senseless Supreme Court ruling that weakened the 1965 Voting Rights Act, Republican state legislatures nationwide are now mobilizing an effort to target Black members of Congress and Black-majority districts.

For many communities across the country, it looks and feels all too familiar of a period of life in America we have fought so hard to overcome.

I consider myself incredibly lucky to still be in the halls of Congress while many of my fellow Black lawmakers have not been as fortunate.
