What's going on? August is normally a slow month in politics but once again we've seen that 2020 is anything but normal. Maybe you watched the Democratic National Convention or avoided Twitter hashtags related to the RNC, but August has had a lot more going on:
The news and what to do about it:
First, the inspirational stuff:
Action Fund Executive Director Kelley Robinson and actress and activist Rosario Dawson hosted an incredible virtual event, and it was, well, awesome. Want a quick recap? Here are some of our favorite parts:
1 Planned Parenthood Action Fund-endorsed candidates from across the country shared how care from Planned Parenthood helped them build the life they wanted.
2 Alexis McGill Johnson, Rep. Ayanna Pressley, Emmy Ruiz, and Angela Rye talked about the intersection of the movement for Black lives and reproductive freedom, the stakes of the election, and what's giving them hope.
3 STUNNING musical performances from The Chicks and SAYGRACE.
4 This reminder of why we do the work from Rep. Ayanna Pressley:
"I have to center everything on policy because policy is my love language. Why is that? Because hurt and harm is codified in law-making."
Now, the put-a-fire-in-your-belly stuff:
A year ago, if we told you the hottest button issue on Capitol Hill would be the U.S. Postal Service, would you have believed us?

Vote-by-mail and absentee ballots — along with 10% of all birth control pills, according to the National Women's Law Center — are delivered by mail, so we're fighting to protect the USPS. Join us:

But wait, there's more...
The majority in the Senate seem to think we're just going to forget that we're in the middle of a pandemic. Hundreds of thousands of lives lost and millions facing economic hardship — maybe they can ignore it, but we can't and we won't.

What we're talking about
In June, Planned Parenthood Federation of America came out in solidarity with the Movement for Black Lives and its call to #defundthepolice. The connection between reproductive rights and defunding the police is stronger than some might think. Learn what more we can do to support the work of partners like Movement for Black Lives.

What we're reading and watching
Sex education is powerful. When done well, people better understand how to care for themselves and have healthy and satisfying relationships with themselves and others.

Because we know racism is pervasive in our society, sex educators have a responsibility to constantly examine racist, heteronormative, and anti-Black framing in their work. Sex educators have the power to deliver sex education through an anti-racist lens.
