The Week in Review
Happy Friday!
I hope you had a wonderful week. I am grateful to serve you all in the 119th Congress. Read below to see what I’ve been working on this week. But first, I want to hear from YOU:
Continue reading to see last week’s poll results and my reaction to the news that the federal government unlawfully spied on me.
NEW LEGISLATION ALERT: No GRIFT Act
This week, I introduced another piece of legislation to fight fraud: the No GRIFT Act. The bill pushes back against the government-funded NGO industrial complex, targeting nonprofits that take in large amounts of federal funding while paying enormous salaries to their executives.
The No GRIFT Act requires any nonprofit that receives more than 50% of its funding from DOJ grants, and pays any employee more than the Attorney General’s salary of $250,600, to become ineligible for DOJ grants. This ensures taxpayer dollars support public safety–not bloated salaries or political activism disguised as nonprofit work.
Read the bill here.
I Was Spied on by Biden's Department of Justice.
You read that right. Newly released documents from U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-IA) prove that Biden’s DOJ and FBI spied on 44 members of Congress, including me. Dubbed Project Cranberry, the documents highlight how privileged information, including my private text messages to and from former Trump-White House personnel, were obtained by Special Counsel Jack Smith’s out-of-control investigations team.
This is an act of egregious overreach, reminiscent of totalitarian governments that spy on–and persecute–political opponents. If the government targeted my colleagues and me, it is certainly doing the same to everyday Americans. Those who knew about, supported, and led this operation against the opposition party must be held accountable for their actions. Read the report from Chairman Grassley here.
Protecting American Citizens
In this week’s Judiciary Committee markup, I spoke in favor of H.Res. 1394, which condemns prosecution policies that give preferential treatment to foreign nationals over U.S. citizens. This isn’t a left or right issue– it’s an American issue that’s just common sense.
