The Washington Post: “Trump fires members of bipartisan elections commission”
John,
Last week, President Trump fired the remaining members of the bipartisan Election Assistance Commission, an independent agency Congress created after Bush v. Gore to help safeguard our elections.
Firing the bipartisan Election Assistance Commission just months before the midterm elections is a clear attack on Americans' voting rights. Trump's attempt to consolidate control over our elections is a warning sign of authoritarianism. We cannot look away.CREW is fighting on several fronts to defend Americans' voting rights and hold the Trump administration accountable for its unprecedented abuse of power. If you believe no president should be able to undermine our democracy without consequences, make a 2X-MATCHED donation today to support our work → [[link removed]]

Until Trump, no president in American history:
* Tried to unilaterally rewrite federal election rules.
* Tried to use the USPS to limit who gets to vote.
* Spread false claims that elections are rigged.
* Replaced officials who refused to back election conspiracy theories.
Now, he's purging independent election watchdogs.
Let’s call this what it is: a systematic effort to undermine our elections and our democracy.
Firing the remaining EAC members is just the latest disturbing step in Donald Trump’s crusade to make it harder to vote and consolidate control of elections. We’re fighting back by filing amicus briefs, public comments and lawsuits against his election power grabs.
Trump's unconstitutional executive order on elections directed the EAC to impose a proof-of-citizenship requirement on the federal voter registration form. CREW helped stop that order in court—but Trump didn't stop looking for another path.
The Supreme Court's Slaughter decision gave him one.
Now Trump can fire independent commissioners and replace them with loyalists who will do his bidding, threatening the independence of the very agency charged with protecting our elections.
This isn't just about one commission. It's about whether the people overseeing our elections answer to the law—or to Donald Trump.
CREW is taking action in the courts to stop Trump's efforts to undermine our elections and our democracy, but we can't do it without our supporters. If you're ready to fight back, chip in today to help us continue this critical work → [[link removed]]
