Last night, Trump gave another rambling speech about the 2020 election (the one he lost... six years ago).
While families are struggling to afford healthcare, put food on the table, and our service members are stuck in a reckless war overseas, Trump is still obsessing over an election he didn't win. Now, he's dragging up a debunked conspiracy about Muskegon's election administration while he's at it.
Thousands of clerks, poll workers, and local elections staff nationwide administered a free and accurate election in 2020. No court and no audit has ever found evidence of widespread voter fraud. Trump knows that, but he's lying anyway, because distracting from his failures is easier than fixing them.
Trump's obsession with the 2020 election is exhausting. But it's also dangerous.
What kept me up all night worrying is that almost every Republican at every level here in Michigan is lining up behind him. They're not just humoring this nonsense; they're using it to justify new attacks on voting rights, right here in our state. Michigan Republicans are refusing to pass the Michigan Voting Rights Act. They're rolling out the welcome mat for federal agents to intimidate Michigan voters. Trump's conspiracies are having a direct impact on our elections and the voting rights of millions of Michiganders.
Michigan Democrats are the ones actually doing the work to protect elections, defend clerks and poll workers from harassment, and make sure every eligible voter can cast a ballot without interference, intimidation, or fear. If we stop fighting, Trump's obsession over losing the 2020 election will tear apart our rights and elections.
