My friend Andy Kim and I have a lot in common. We both have a parent who is an immigrant: my mom is from Thailand and both of Andy's parents are from South Korea. We both served our country overseas: I was a U.S. Army helicopter pilot in Iraq and Andy was a civilian advisor in Afghanistan. And we both ran for office to make people's lives better.

There's a lot at stake this November, but protecting the security of our nation is one thing we can't lose sight of. That's why we need to re-elect Andy in November. He has critical national security experience, and no one works harder than him.

But national Republicans want him gone. They're spending millions to back a self-funding GOP millionaire who said he's running for office to solely support President Trump.

So I asked if I could email you personally: will you make a contribution to help Andy ensure he has the resources he needs to win his "toss-up" race?

After my helicopter was shot down in Iraq, I didn't care if the soldiers who rescued me were Democrats or Republicans. And I know Andy feels the same about those he worked with in Afghanistan. All that mattered to each of us was that we were working together to keep each other -- and our nation -- safe.

That's the same mentality we take to Washington. Our national security is one of Andy's top priorities, and we need more leaders like him in Congress.
