Hi John, it’s Rep. Mark Takano. 

 

Across the country, ICE agents are terrorizing our communities, dehumanizing immigrants, and imprisoning families.

 

And in DC? Donald Trump and his allies are cheering them on every step of the way.

 

This isn’t just politics to me, John. It’s deeply personal, because in today’s headlines, I can’t help but see my family history repeating itself. 

 



 

Along with 120,000 other Japanese Americans, my parents were ripped from their homes as babies and relocated to internment camps, all because of their ethnicity.

 

I’ve dedicated my career to ensuring that these histories never repeat. 

 

But now, ICE is locking up thousands of immigrant families in detention centers that mirror those that held my parents – with no medical care, no safe drinking water, and no due process.
